We departed for the farm on Friday in a rush, I had some preconceived ideas about a few shots I wanted to get. Unfortunately the sun waits for no one and I missed them. Saturday morning I was out accompanying a hunter on a hunt again. We had a great morning, we found a herd of impala and watched them for 15 minutes, without them knowing we were there. Initially there was no clear shot as the impala grouped and did not present a safe clear shot - being an ethical hunter one never takes a cha...

It was an interesting weekend, not much time for photo's as I spent Saturday in the bush as a hunting guide. As with all new things in life it was a learning experience. Normally I'm the hunter with a guide accompanying me. Our hunting rules on the farm is based on ethical hunting fundamentals and yes it may seem cruel but I'm not going to defend hunting here. I believe in it and the sustainable use of wild animals. One of the rules is no hunting from vehicles as we do not want to associate...

I was invited by one of my childhood friends to hunt on his farm near Kimberley in the Northern Cape. As a kid I spent practically every holiday visiting them on the farm, then it was in the Limpopo province north of the Soutpansberg in the beautful but harsh Mopani bushveld. I have such fond memories of those days and it was great to catch up.

The countdown to the Soccer World Cup has now reached the point where the timer is running empty as fast as the one in a 30 Seconds game. Reading through the various web posts I can sense the excitement of the fans coming to South Africa. I don’t think we really know what is about to hit us. We will be consumed by the passion for the beautiful game.

This photo was taken while leaving Loftus in Pretoria, after the last rugby union game at this venue until after the Soccer World Cup...

Just 38 days to go before South Africa host the biggest sporting event in the world - the 2010 Soccer World Cup. On Saturday our son Liam decided to try his hand (or should that be foot) at the beautiful game – according to his coach he is a natural. This was a great day to photograph the youngsters, we had some sunshine, and their very colourful kit certainly made lovely photo's.

This is a very late report back on the weekend. I did not spend it on this farm, we slipped away to another farm in another province this time. I took my dad up to his farm near Alldays and popped into Mapungubwe on the Sunday. The weather wasn’t perfect for photography, overcast with intermittent rain and no sun not even a sunset. Mapungubwe does have great possibilities for the photographer – landscape, animals and birds-some of the bird species are regional and the Limpopo is their s...?
